Internet Security   1 comment

So the ISP just came and installed a modem and hopefully a router. In this application, the router separates your network from the outside and secures the connection. Here is a great walkthrough to completely lock down your internet connection. Once you think you have your network secured, head over to GRC and run Shields Up! This will test all connections to your IP address looking for open ports. You want the results to all be stealth rather than closed. If the results come back closed, people aren’t getting in but it provides a future point for someone to attack, when it is stealth, the computer doesn’t exist to the outside world. Since the most secure internet connection is one that is not plugged in, stealth emulates that state. If you find one open, then you have some investigating to do to make sure things are locked down.
